My great-grandfather married twice and I understand that his first wife was Elizabeth or Bessie Hughes though we as a family seem to think it was a Mary Duggan. He had two children by his first marriage and the names I have are Samuel George McCartney (born 20 October 1878) and Richard McCartney. It is understood that they left Northern Ireland and went to the States but I know nothing more about them. My Great Grandfather was a Farmer at Aldergrove, Killead, Co. Antrim and he was also a Publican. His father was also Samuel and he married Alice Brankin probably from Ballynadrintagh and he was a Farmer at Aldergrove.
Co-incidentally on my Father's side of the family, Jeffery, there is a Clara McCartney mentioned and I wondered if anyone has any information on a Clara McCartney who married a Jeffery from Derbyshire, England.
Any leads or help you can give me would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Irene Jeffery
